We begin with something real

Every reflection starts with a significant event, read widely. We don’t take a single account on trust: we follow the same story across outlets that see it differently - including independent wire services - and we keep what actually happened separate from what we go on to make of it. Where the facts are contested, we say so. If a story cannot be told fairly, we don’t tell it.

We let the Qur’an set the frame

We turn to the Qur’an’s own moral vocabulary to consider the story. We never claim a verse predicts the news, and we never read a tragedy as a judgement on the people caught in it. We ask, instead, what an enduring human pattern asks of us.

To be sure the connection is genuine and not merely convenient, we draw on the same thematic map that powers thematicquran.com - letting the Qur’an’s own themes lead us to the passages that truly speak to the matter. And we read each verse inside its whole passage, never lifted out of it, so its meaning is the one its neighbours give it.

We quote with care

Every word of Arabic is taken from the canonical Quran Foundation text - never from memory - and the English is the same trusted translation the main site uses. The sayings of the Prophet ﷺ and of scholars are never assumed sound; each is checked against its source and approved before it appears.

We weigh every word about people

Where a story touches real lives, we hold the parties evenly: claims are attributed, casualty figures are given carefully and never asserted as settled, and no one is condemned in passing. The dignity of those who suffer comes before the point we wish to make.

We publish slowly, and only when a person says so

Nothing here is published automatically. Every reflection is read by a person before it goes live, and it is published only when the sources, the citations, and the way people are represented have all passed review - not to keep pace with the news cycle.
